Lawn Care Tip: Water Deep, Not Often

When it comes to achieving a thick, green lawn, how you water matters just as much as how often you fertilize.
Many homeowners make the mistake of watering a little bit every day. While this may seem helpful, it actually encourages shallow root growth, making your lawn more vulnerable to heat, drought, and stress.
The Better Approach
Instead, water your lawn deep and less frequently. This encourages roots to grow deeper into the soil, creating a stronger, more drought-resistant lawn.
Aim for 1–1.5 inches of water per week
Water 2–3 times per week, rather than daily
Water early in the morning to reduce evaporation and disease risk
Avoid This Common Mistake
Watering in the evening might seem convenient, but it can leave your lawn wet overnight—creating the perfect environment for fungus and disease.
Pro Tip
Place a small container (like a tuna can) on your lawn while watering. Once it fills to about 1 inch, you know your lawn has received enough water.
